A 19-year-old man is behind bars, charged with manslaughter in the death of an 84-year-old Houston woman, authorities said Friday. Deputies identified the victim as Joanne Bennett and said the fatal incident happened March 7 at a home in the 5600 block of Saddlebred Drive. The suspect, Joshua Ramos, was booked into the Harris County Jail after his arrest.
According to a post by the Harris County Sheriff's Office on X, Ramos, born Aug. 28, 2006, was arrested after investigators say he struck Bennett inside her home, and the department listed manslaughter as the charge. The post also credited the office's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team and assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety's southeast unit in taking Ramos into custody.

See the Texas Penal Code for the statute text of § 19.04.
