A 17-year-old boy was fired at on a Staten Island street earlier this month, and now NYPD detectives are asking for the neighborhood’s help to track down the person they say pulled the trigger and ran.
According to police, an unidentified individual displayed a firearm and discharged it toward the teen on a Saturday at 312 Pulaski Avenue, then took off on foot. No arrest has been announced, and investigators are circulating photos of a person they want to identify in connection with the attempted assault.
In a bulletin posted May 20, NYPD Crime Stoppers said the incident happened on May 9 at 312 Pulaski Avenue and described the case as a wanted attempted assault. The notice says the suspect ran off on foot and includes instructions for sending in anonymous tips.
How To Reach Crime Stoppers
Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish speakers, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The NYPD also directs the public to submit tips online through the department’s Crime Stoppers portal and notes that reward eligibility is explained on its information page; both the hotline and web form are referenced on the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers page.
What Police Have Released And What Happens Next
The photos in the bulletin are meant to help the public recognize the person of interest. The post urges witnesses and nearby residents with surveillance cameras to review their footage and contact police if they spot the individual shown.
Detectives will review any tips that come in and, if they develop solid leads, could seek charges through the Staten Island district attorney’s office.
Legal Note
Under New York law, displaying or firing a gun in connection with a violent offense can bring serious felony counts, including criminal use of a firearm and weapon possession charges, as outlined in the state penal code. Any eventual charges would depend on the specific facts investigators and prosecutors are able to establish.
Anyone who recognizes the person in the images, or who has information about what happened in or around 312 Pulaski Avenue on May 9, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers or use the department’s online tip form right away.
