Three long-awaited Baltimore food spots are finally inching closer to opening after clearing key licensing hurdles this week. A returning Thai favorite in Waverly, a fine dining project perched above downtown's Jerk At Nite, and a new Greektown outpost of The Breakfast Club of Baltimore all moved forward, bringing everything from brunch cocktails to high-end plates a step nearer for neighborhoods that have been waiting on fresh dining options.
As reported by The Baltimore Banner, Baltimore's Board of Liquor License Commissioners on Thursday granted licenses and extensions that nudged the three projects ahead in the pipeline. The Banner notes that Nuttawood (Nat) Mettawiparee is preparing to relaunch the Thai Restaurant at 3100 Greenmount Ave Chef Loic Sany expects Nest at 21 N. Eutaw St. to open at the end of May with dishes like caviar, foie gras, and duck, and The Breakfast Club of Baltimore is set to move into a space at Yard 56 at 560 Bayview Blvd. Owners and attorneys told reporters that construction and permitting are underway and that teams are now waiting on final city inspections before they can circle official opening dates on the calendar.
Thai Restaurant Nears Reopening on Greenmount
Board records list Royal Thai, LLC, made up of Nuttawood and Javalak Mettawiparee, as the applicants for a Class "BD7" license transfer for 3100 Greenmount Ave, which formally puts the relaunch in front of the city's liquor board, according to the Board of Liquor License Commissioners for Baltimore City. That paperwork is a required procedural step on the way to reopening, and the restaurant will still need to clear final inspections and secure operational approvals before diners can walk back through the door.
Nest Will Sit Above Jerk At Nite Downtown
Jerk At Nite has already opened at 21 N. Eutaw St. in downtown Baltimore, and earlier local coverage shows the building's second floor has at times operated as a speakeasy-style space, creating a ready platform for a sibling concept upstairs. That history gives chef Loic Sany a built-in audience for Nest as he pivots to a more technical, fine dining program above the Caribbean-focused restaurant; see earlier reporting in SouthBMore for background on Jerk At Nite's downtown launch.
Breakfast Club Heads to Yard 56 in Greektown
The Breakfast Club of Baltimore is slated to take a unit at Yard 56, a 20-acre mixed-use development with retail and residential components near Johns Hopkins Bayview, according to Baltimore Fishbowl. The developer's plans for Yard 56, anchored by a national grocer and a growing roster of shops, set the stage for an all-day breakfast spot that owners say will feature plates like French toast, smoked salmon Benedicts, and brunch cocktails.
Licensing votes and transfer filings are important milestones, but inspectors' sign-offs and the final buildout work still stand between each project and opening night. If current timelines hold, Nest could debut by the end of May, with the Waverly Thai spot and the Breakfast Club location following as permits wrap up and crews finish their kitchens.
