On a quiet Monday evening in Glade Township, a small gray kitten was tied inside a black disposable bag and tossed from a moving pickup truck on Conewango Avenue around 6:45 p.m. Miraculously, the six- to eight-week-old animal was found unharmed and later posed in a now-viral photo perched on a state trooper’s shoulder.
State police took the case public on Tuesday, posting an appeal on the PSP Tips Facebook page and sharing the kitten’s photo while asking for help tracking down whoever threw it, according to CBS Pittsburgh. Troopers described the suspect vehicle as a white, single-cab Chevrolet pickup with no registration plate and visible rust, and asked anyone with cameras along Conewango Avenue to review footage from roughly 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. that night.
Additional local reporting from the Times Observer notes that troopers responded to a call in Glade Township and that a witness described the pickup’s driver as a Black, non-Hispanic male. The paper reports that anyone with information is urged to contact the Warren state police barracks.
How to help investigators
Police are asking residents to comb through door-cam and dash-cam footage from last Monday and report anything that might help piece together what happened. Anyone with tips can call the Warren State Police at 814-728-3600 and ask for Trooper Holsopple or Corporal Koebley, call the PSP Tips line at 1-800-472-8477, or submit an online tip through P3Tips, according to CBS Pittsburgh.
What the law covers
Deliberately harming or abandoning an animal is not just disturbing to neighbors, it is a crime in Pennsylvania. Cruelty to animals is laid out in Title 18, Chapter 55 of state law, with offenses ranging from summary violations up to misdemeanors or a third-degree felony, depending on the injury and any aggravating circumstances, according to the Pennsylvania General Assembly.
The PSP in Warren says the investigation remains active and urged anyone with footage or information to come forward so troopers can identify the pickup and its operator. Authorities have not announced any arrests or charges.
