Kate’s Fish’s long-awaited Tremont seafood bar will not be opening its doors anytime soon. Owner Tom McIntyre says the debut has been pushed to late 2026, but the local favorite is staying busy and visible with lobster-roll pop-ups that keep selling out across the city. For now, McIntyre is keeping weekends packed with pop-up service out of the West Side Market swing space while construction on the Tremont project grinds forward.
The Tremont restaurant is slated for the longtime Roosevelt Post #58 building on Professor Avenue and is set to feature a raw bar along with an immersive oyster counter tucked right into the front window. As reported by Cleveland.com, the target opening has slid into late 2026, with McIntyre planning to keep the pop-ups going while the buildout continues.
McIntyre, who took over the Kate’s Fish stall at the West Side Market in 2020, is a major partner in the Tremont expansion and has mapped out a menu that blends casual cooked plates with a chilled raw bar. According to Cleveland Scene, diners can look forward to lobster rolls, fried clams, bouillabaisse, fish and chips, plus seasonal events like clambakes and lobster boils.
Pop-ups keep demand high
The West Side Market swing-space pop-ups have become something of a weekend ritual, with long lines forming early and lobster rolls disappearing fast as McIntyre tests dishes and builds buzz ahead of the full-scale Tremont opening. As detailed by Cleveland.com, Kate’s Fish sold out of lobster rolls on two consecutive Saturdays, moving roughly 220 rolls in about two hours. To keep up, the crew plans to stock around 300 rolls for the May 16 pop-up, which is scheduled to kick off at 10 a.m. Recent events have priced the lobster roll at $22.
What comes next
McIntyre has been experimenting with expansion plays for years, from additional market stalls to weekend takeout offerings, looking for ways to grow the family business without stretching it too thin. The Land documented those earlier efforts and his focus on sourcing seafood directly so the menu can stay approachable for neighborhood diners.
For Tremont residents and seafood fans across Cleveland, the delay pushes the restaurant’s debut into next year but keeps Kate’s Fish solidly in the mix through its regular West Side Market stall and ongoing pop-up events. Anyone hoping to snag a lobster roll before the full bar opens will want to keep an eye on the West Side Market schedule and Kate’s Fish social channels for the latest dates and availability.
