A midday fire in a converted garage attic at 14900 W Saticoy Street in Van Nuys was knocked down in roughly 20 minutes on Thursday, after a multi-unit Valley Bureau response kept flames from spreading beyond the detached structure. Firefighters moved quickly into overhaul to hunt for hotspots and assess damage, and there were no immediate reports of injuries.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, first-arriving Engine 90 found light smoke showing from the detached garage and identified the incident as a "converted garage attic fire." Logged as Incident #0824, the blaze was declared knocked down at about 12:32 p.m., with units from Fire Station 81 along with multiple engines and trucks from across the Valley assigned to the scene.
Valley Response And Scene
Per the Los Angeles Fire Department, crews used offensive operations to keep the fire from jumping to nearby structures, while ambulances and rescue units stood by as firefighters completed overhaul. Officials did not report any evacuations, and access to nearby homes remained open after firefighters confirmed the flames were out.
Recent Valley Runs And What To Watch
Van Nuys has seen several notable runs this spring, including an apartment blaze last month that sent a 75-year-old tenant to the hospital and highlighted how quickly crews have to move to protect neighboring units. Investigators typically remain on scene after overhaul to determine where a fire started and will release cause information when it becomes available.
The cause of the Saticoy fire remains under investigation, and officials say they will release further updates as their inquiry continues. This story will be updated if the department shares additional details about damage or origin.
