Manor Township residents were on alert late Wednesday after multiple black bear sightings near Lenape Technical School and a nearby Sheetz in the Ford City area. Police said a pair of black bears was seen roaming the neighborhood at night and urged people to be careful around yards and common food sources.
According to WTAE, Manor Township police posted that residents near Lenape Technical School and the Sheetz should take down bird feeders and avoid leaving outside garbage containers uncovered. The post noted that the animals were active after dark and that the Pennsylvania Game Commission had been notified.
Game commission response and safety steps
The Pennsylvania Game Commission’s Southwest regional office says wardens monitor nuisance-bear reports and may trap or relocate animals that become food-conditioned or threaten public safety, as has happened in past Armstrong County incidents. The agency also recommends securing garbage, bringing bird feeders indoors, and not leaving pet food outside to cut down on attractants, according to the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
How neighbors can reduce conflicts
The Manor Township sightings mirror other encounters across Pennsylvania this spring, from doorbell-camera footage in Butler County that left Butler neighbors stunned to a bear captured near soccer fields in Lehigh County, covered by CBS Philadelphia. Recent reports have underscored how unsecured trash and bird feeders can draw hungry bears into neighborhoods.
If you see a bear that poses an immediate threat, call 911. For nonemergency sightings, contact local police or report the sighting to the Pennsylvania Game Commission at 1-833-PGC-WILD. The agency’s guidance on wildlife viewing and safety is available online via the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
