Four separate overnight shootings rattled Denver from late Saturday into Sunday morning, leaving one person dead and several others wounded as investigators scrambled across multiple neighborhoods.
Denver police said the shootings unfolded in distinct pockets of the city, from the Airport Way corridor to Santa Fe Drive, East Colfax, and Speer Boulevard, and that the cases currently appear unrelated. Each one is being handled as its own investigation.
Officers pushed out a series of alert messages with basic timelines and locations as calls poured in during a particularly hectic stretch for the department, according to KDVR.
Neighborhoods Hit Overnight
The first call came in around 10:28 p.m. Saturday, sending officers to the 4700 block of Airport Way for a reported shooting. One person was taken to the hospital, and police later arrested 36-year-old Davon Morgan on an investigation of first-degree assault, as reported by KDVR.
Roughly five hours later, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Santa Fe Drive for another shooting. In that case, two victims chose not to wait for an ambulance and drove themselves to the hospital, according to alert information cited by Denver7.
Just moments after the Santa Fe call, police were directed to East Colfax Avenue and North Dahlia Street. There, one victim also self-transported to a hospital but was later pronounced dead. Detectives have now classified that incident as a homicide, according to KDVR.
The fourth shooting was reported at about 9:11 a.m. Sunday in the 1300 block of North Speer Boulevard. In that case, the victim likewise showed up at a nearby emergency room rather than waiting at the scene. Authorities urged anyone with information about any of the incidents to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP or submit a tip online via Metro Denver Crime Stoppers.
Legal Status
Morgan remains in custody on an investigation of first-degree assault tied to the Airport Way shooting, and the Colfax-area case is now under a full homicide probe. Police have not released suspect details in the Santa Fe Drive or Speer Boulevard shootings and said detectives will keep working leads as they process each scene. Anyone with video, tips, or other information is asked to contact investigators directly or reach out anonymously through Metro Denver Crime Stoppers.
