Jacksonville woke up Thursday, June 4, to clear skies, mild temps in the low 70s, and a stiff northeast breeze that you can feel even away from the shoreline. The day will stay mostly sunny and warm, with highs climbing into the low to mid 80s, but strong onshore winds will keep the Atlantic kicked up and the beaches noticeably gustier than inland neighborhoods.
Rip Currents And Beach Safety
Forecasters have issued a Rip Current Statement for northeast Florida and southeast Georgia beaches through late Friday night, warning of dangerous rip currents and surf of about 4 to 6 feet. The advisory urges beachgoers to "Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float," and notes that onshore winds will gust into the mid 20s, keeping conditions rough. Avoid entering the water when flags indicate danger, keep children close, and follow lifeguard guidance, according to the National Weather Service Jacksonville.
Weekend Outlook
High pressure should keep most of Friday and Saturday dry, with a gradual warming trend and highs rising into the upper 80s inland and the upper 80s to around 90 by Sunday. Rain and thunderstorm chances increase Monday into midweek, with a slight chance of afternoon storms on Monday and higher coverage expected by Tuesday. Plan Ahead
If you are heading to the coast, stick to lifeguarded beaches, pay attention to posted flag warnings, and keep a close eye on kids and weaker swimmers. Boaters should check local marine forecasts and think about delaying offshore trips while Small Craft Advisory conditions persist in some waters; otherwise, at least pack a windbreaker for the gusts. Updates will follow if advisories change through the weekend.
