A 15-year-old boy was shot and wounded Thursday evening in the Castle Hill section of the Bronx, police say. He was hit in the foot and rushed to Jacobi Pediatric Hospital, where doctors say he is expected to survive.
According to New York Daily News, the gunfire erupted near Randall and Zerega avenues. The NYPD says two suspects were last seen squeezing onto a single red-and-white motorized scooter with no plates as they took off from the scene. Medics transported the teen to Jacobi Pediatric Hospital, and NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi confirmed he is expected to survive.
Where It Happened
The shooting was reported at the intersection of Randall and Zerega avenues in Castle Hill, a busy southeast Bronx neighborhood that falls under the NYPD’s 43rd Precinct, as noted by Wikipedia. The area sits east of the Bruckner Expressway and mixes commercial strips with NYCHA developments, where street incidents have periodically been recorded.
Police Search
Police say detectives are canvassing the blocks around the intersection and checking for any surveillance footage that residents or businesses are willing to share. The NYPD told New York Daily News that the two suspects were spotted riding the same red-and-white motorized scooter without plates as they fled. Investigators have not released their names or ages.
City Context
Citywide, the NYPD reported the fewest murders and shooting incidents on record for the first quarter of 2026, even as isolated bursts of gunfire continue to hit neighborhoods like Castle Hill, according to an April NYPD announcement. The department pointed to borough-level declines and again urged New Yorkers to share tips that can help detectives piece together what happens after shots ring out.
How To Help
Anyone with information about Thursday’s shooting is asked to contact NYPD Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip online, per CBS New York. Tips can be made anonymously and may be eligible for a reward, and police say anyone with video or eyewitness details about the scooter or suspects should hold onto that footage for investigators.
