An Eagle Lake resident has quietly joined the millionaire ranks, claiming a $1 million top prize in the Texas Lottery’s Million Dollar Loteria scratch-ticket game. The winner chose to stay anonymous after the claim was processed this week.
According to the Colorado County Citizen, the lucky ticket was sold at the Time Maxx convenience store at 500 E. Main St., right across the street from Buc-ee’s in Eagle Lake. The outlet reports the retailer may now be in line for a $10,000 bonus through the state’s retailer bonus program.
What the Million Dollar Loteria Pays
The Texas Lottery’s public game page lists Million Dollar Loteria with more than $384 million in total prizes and puts the overall odds of winning any prize at about 1 in 3.29. The game table also shows how many $1 million top prizes were printed and how many have already been claimed, according to the Texas Lottery.
Retailer Bonus and Program Limits
As spelled out on the Texas Lottery’s retailer bonus chart, “Any prize winning scratch-off ticket of $1 million or more earns the selling retailer a $10,000 bonus.” Materials for the Texas Lottery’s retailer bonus program also explain that the program has budget limits and other eligibility rules that can affect whether a bonus is actually paid, according to the Texas Lottery.
This Eagle Lake win comes during a hot streak for big scratch-ticket payouts in southeast Texas. A League City resident claimed a $7.5 million scratch-ticket prize in May, per KGTX, and local reporting has flagged additional $1 million claims in Huffman, Cleveland, Conroe and Beaumont.
Winners of seven-figure prizes must claim at a Texas Lottery regional claims center and can choose to remain anonymous, local reporting notes. According to the Conroe News, prize payments can be subject to tax withholdings, so winners are advised to secure a signed ticket and then contact the Texas Lottery for next steps.
