A stretch of Caroline Street in downtown Houston became the focus of a death investigation early Wednesday after officers found a woman unresponsive with visible signs of trauma. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene in the 2300 block of Caroline.
What investigators said
Officers were dispatched around 6:35 a.m. on a report of a person down at the location, according to MyTexasDaily. Responding patrol units discovered the woman and called in HFD, which confirmed she had died.
In a news release, the Houston Police Department said the investigation remains active as detectives process the scene and coordinate initial steps with HFD. Authorities have not released further details about what may have led up to the woman's death.
Autopsy and identification pending
The woman has not yet been publicly identified. Her name and official cause of death are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, the county medical examiner's office that handles autopsies and confirms identifications.
The institute notes that autopsy results and formal identifications are shared first with law enforcement and next of kin before any information is released to the public.
