Nearly three years after her daughter was gunned down in a busy Catonsville shopping-center parking lot, Nicole Jackson is still making a mother’s plea. Her daughter, 26-year-old Diamond Trueheart, a University of Maryland graduate who owned a small business and was raising a young child, was shot and killed as she left work on January 13, 2022.
What Happened At Catonsville Plaza
Baltimore County homicide detectives say they were called to the Catonsville Plaza shopping center off Baltimore National Pike around 1 p.m. on January 13. They found Trueheart inside an SUV with multiple gunshot wounds, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The SUV was boxed in by other vehicles in the crowded lot, and investigators said they are still examining whether the attack was a targeted shooting, as reported by WBAL‑TV.
Investigators Chase Leads But Case Remains Cold
Detective Jason Metz, who has been on the case since the day of the killing, told WMAR‑2 News that two people climbed out of a dark-colored sedan in the lot. According to Metz, one suspect chased Jackson while the other chased Trueheart and kept firing until she fell. The suspects took off, and investigators later recovered a vehicle believed to be connected to the crime about a week after the shooting. That car had been set on fire. Metz added that DNA evidence led detectives to someone who may have known about the killing, but the genetic trail did not move the investigation forward.

Jackson said her daughter "graduated from college, she started her own business, she was a great mom" and repeated, "we just want justice for her, and for our family," per WMAR‑2 News. The family is urging anyone with information to come forward so investigators can finally bring answers.
