A late-night confrontation outside Coach's Bar ended with a 30-year-old Pittsburgh man in handcuffs early Tuesday, after police say he beat another man and threatened to kill him in the parking lot. According to court paperwork, the victim captured part of the clash on his phone and later showed officers video of the encounter.
The victim was left with a swollen right cheek and a long abrasion along the left side of his throat, the documents state. Police say two other men took off in a black vehicle and left the accused attacker behind, and investigators are now asking anyone who saw what happened to come forward.
Police Say Video Captured Attack And Death Threats
Officers were called to the area of Coach's Bar at 12:31 a.m., and court documents identify the suspect as Ozodjon Jams Abduraupov, 30, of Pittsburgh. When police arrived, Abduraupov was speaking incoherently and slurring his words, according to the paperwork.
The situation escalates on the victim's phone recording until the video suddenly jerks, which officers say is consistent with the phone being struck. The victim told police that Abduraupov pinned his arm behind his back, then dragged him by the neck and throat toward a car. He also reported that one of the other men punched him and had a knife. Those details come from court paperwork and police statements, as reported by WPXI.
Charges And What They Mean
Abduraupov was booked on counts that include simple assault, strangulation, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, and terroristic threats, according to the court documents.
Pennsylvania law spells out each of those offenses. Terroristic threats are defined at 18 Pa.C.S. § 2706. Strangulation, which covers knowingly impeding another person's breathing or blood circulation by pressure to the throat or by blocking the nose and mouth, is addressed at 18 Pa.C.S. § 2718. Simple assault appears at 18 Pa.C.S. § 2701. As laid out in Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, Title 18, Chapter 27, each charge carries its own grading and possible penalties that will be sorted out during prosecution.
Booking And Ongoing Investigation
Police say Abduraupov was accepted into the Allegheny County Jail at 1:40 a.m. Detectives are working to identify the two other men who left the scene in the black vehicle.
According to what the victim told officers, he chose not to go to a hospital because he feared the other men would be waiting to kill him. Court documents and responding officers' accounts describe the case as an active investigation, as reported by WPXI.
It was not immediately clear when or if prosecutors had formally filed all counts in the county court. Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has video of the attack to contact Pittsburgh police so investigators can follow up.
