A late-night crash on Dublin Road near Grandview Heights left a Columbus man dead after police say he was hit by two separate vehicles in quick succession.
The victim, identified by officers as 61-year-old Curtis Wilson of Columbus, was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead. The collision happened in the 1400 block of Dublin Road in the Village of Marble Cliff.
Police: Two Vehicles Struck the Pedestrian
According to NBC4, Grandview Heights officers say a Mazda sedan first struck Wilson at about 10:35 p.m., followed by a Toyota SUV that hit him after the initial impact. Both drivers stayed at the scene and were not injured, police said. Investigators asked anyone with information or video related to the crash to contact police.
Road Closures and Where to Give Tips
Southbound lanes of Dublin Road were shut down for several hours Thursday night while officers documented the scene and collected evidence.
The Grandview Heights Division of Police lists its non-emergency line (614-488-7901) and an additional contact number (614-466-3536) for people with tips or media questions about the case.
State Safety Push Casts Wider Shadow
The deadly crash comes as Ohio is in the middle of a broader push to make streets safer for people on foot. Gov. Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department of Transportation announced a roughly $137.5 million package of traffic-safety projects last year that included 22 initiatives specifically aimed at pedestrian improvements, according to WLWT.
State officials have said overall traffic deaths have been trending down since 2021, but pedestrian safety remains a front-burner issue for planners and local police departments.
Investigators continue to work the case and have not released additional details about what led up to the collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators using the phone numbers provided by police.
