A late-morning police chase tore through parts of Northeast Philadelphia on Wednesday, sending officers from Roosevelt Boulevard to Port Richmond and finally into Bridesburg, where the pursuit came to a tense end. The man at the center of it all was ultimately pulled from a hiding spot and taken away in handcuffs, as Chopper 6 cameras rolled overhead.
The pursuit kicked off around 11 a.m., when officers began investigating a reported assault on Roosevelt Boulevard, police said. According to witnesses, the man abandoned a vehicle, took off on foot, and ran into a nearby cemetery after dumping the car. As reported by 6abc, the driver is believed to have steered through lower Northeast streets and into Port Richmond before officers closed in on him in Bridesburg.
How The Chase Ended
"Chopper 6 was overhead as police swarmed a carport in which the suspect was hiding," according to 6abc. Police said the vehicle, which had lost a tire during the pursuit, was found in the 2600 block of Croydon Street. Officers then pulled the man from the hiding spot and took him into custody a short time later.
What Police Are Saying
Officials have not released the suspect's name or confirmed any formal charges, and the investigation is still active. Police and news crews have described the situation as a developing story, with more details expected as detectives continue their follow-up work.
