A man was stabbed to death Monday night on the Westside of Long Beach, a killing that has residents on edge as detectives search for whoever is responsible. Officers were called around 8:30 p.m. to the 1800 block of Harbor Avenue, near Pacific Coast Highway and the Long Beach (710) Freeway, where they found the wounded man. Medics rushed him to a hospital, but he later died from his injuries. The suspect or suspects had already taken off before officers arrived and remain at large, police said.
According to MyNewsLA, the Long Beach Police Department said, “At this time, suspect information, circumstances of the assault, and motive remain under investigation,” and noted that the decedent’s identity is being withheld until the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner can notify next of kin. The department’s brief statement did not offer any suspect description or hint at a possible motive.
Neighbors and Recent Incidents
The killing lands in a tense moment for some Westside residents, who have already been voicing concerns about a string of recent violent crimes. Neighbors and community outlets have pointed to a cluster of stabbings and at least one shooting in recent weeks, saying it is getting harder to square those incidents with city officials’ assurances that long-term crime trends are moving in the right direction. Long Beach Local News reported that multiple incidents since Mother’s Day have rattled residents, who are calling for more visible patrols and new prevention strategies.
What Investigators Are Asking
Homicide detectives are handling the case and are asking for the public’s help. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Long Beach Police Department’s homicide detail at (562) 570-7244 or to submit anonymous tips to LA Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477, according to a Long Beach Police Department press release. Investigators say they are reviewing evidence, interviewing witnesses and checking available video while the coroner works to notify the victim’s family.
