A Detroit man is behind bars after a pre-dawn narcotics raid that investigators say uncovered roughly 420 grams of cocaine, multiple guns and drug-packaging gear at two homes on the city’s west side. Officers executed search warrants on June 11 and arrested Michael DeShawn Campbell, who was arraigned June 16. A judge set bond at $400,000 cash or surety, and prosecutors say Campbell faces several delivery counts and felony-firearm charges that could bring lengthy prison time if he is convicted.
What investigators found
According to Macomb Daily, detectives with the Sheriff's Enforcement Team reported seizing about 420 grams of suspected cocaine during the June 11 operation, along with one rifle and four pistols. They also collected numerous magazines and rounds of ammunition, digital scales, packaging materials consistent with narcotics sales and $2,291 in cash. The items were recovered after search warrants were served at about 5:30 a.m. at two Detroit residences, authorities said.
Multi-agency sweep
The Sheriff's Enforcement Team, or SET, is described as a joint effort between Macomb County Sheriff's Office detectives and Warren Police investigators, according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office. County statements note that SET often works alongside federal, state and other local agencies during narcotics probes, reflecting a regional approach to drug enforcement.
Charges, bond and next steps
Campbell was formally charged in Warren's 37th District Court on June 16 with two counts of delivery of a controlled substance between 50 and 449 grams, six counts of delivery under 50 grams and two felony-firearm counts, Macomb Daily reported. Judge Michael C. Chupa set bond at $400,000 cash or surety. The sheriff's office said that if Campbell is released on bond, he will be required to wear a GPS tether. A probable cause conference is scheduled for June 30.
Local enforcement context
As detailed in Macomb County Sheriff's Office releases, SET has carried out several raids this year that turned up large amounts of cocaine and firearms as authorities target distribution pipelines tied to Macomb County. A recent operation that resulted in a massive 1,500-pound marijuana haul and substantial cash seizures, covered by Hoodline, underscored the scale of drug investigations in the region.
The case involving Campbell remains under investigation, and he is due back in court on June 30 for the probable cause conference. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Macomb County Sheriff's Office.
