A driver was killed yesterday when a Dallas Area Rapid Transit Blue Line train struck a vehicle that had crossed onto the tracks in northeast Dallas, near the intersection of Royal Lane and Audelia Road. Emergency crews pronounced the driver dead at the scene. Two passengers on the train reported minor injuries, and the train operator was not hurt.
According to FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth, DART officials said the vehicle drove onto the right-of-way before it was hit by the Blue Line train. Investigators were still working to determine how the vehicle ended up on the tracks, and officials had not released the driver's name pending notification of relatives.
Scene and response
Per Dallas Area Rapid Transit, the two injured passengers were treated at the scene, and the operator escaped uninjured. DART and local emergency crews closed the area around the crash while investigators documented the scene and worked to clear the tracks.
Previous collisions and safety reminders
Crashes involving trains and vehicles are relatively rare but can be catastrophic when they happen. In April 2024, a driver who went around a crossing gate was killed after crashing into a DART Green Line train, a case covered by The Dallas Morning News. That incident prompted renewed warnings from officials about obeying crossing arms and signals at rail intersections.
Investigation and service impact
Dallas Area Rapid Transit said the crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine how the vehicle entered the tracks. Officials did not immediately say whether Blue Line service was delayed, and riders in the area were advised to check DART service alerts for any updates.
