A former Jefferson County (Jeffco) Public Schools security guard is sitting in the Boulder County jail after Longmont police arrested him Monday on a slate of child-sexual-abuse charges, authorities say. Brian C. Richie, 67, is accused of sexual assault of a child by a person in a position of trust, along with multiple counts tied to alleged possession of child-sexual-abuse images and videos. A judge set his bond at $250,000 and ordered tight restrictions that would cut him off from contact with minors and from internet-capable devices if he is released.
According to The Denver Gazette, Longmont police booked Richie into the Boulder County jail on 12 counts of sexual exploitation of a child for allegedly possessing videos, 16 counts for allegedly possessing photos, and invasion-of-privacy charges tied to sexual gratification. Prosecutors filed an arrest affidavit and a jail log with the court, the Gazette reports.
How the allegation reached police
Blue Sky Bridge is the Boulder County child-advocacy center that coordinates forensic interviews, medical referrals, and law-enforcement reporting when abuse is suspected. The group’s website describes it as an accredited child-advocacy center that partners with schools and first responders to support children and families throughout investigations and treatment, handling the specialized interviews and referrals that often lead to formal police cases. Blue Sky Bridge also publishes phone and contact information for people seeking help.
What investigators say
The arrest affidavit reviewed by The Denver Gazette states that the alleged victim disclosed the abuse to Blue Sky Bridge in January after a school presentation and told investigators Richie had touched her inappropriately when they were alone. Detectives obtained a search warrant for Richie’s cellphone in early February and reported finding numerous photos and videos that they say contain child-sexual-abuse material dating from September 2018 through December 2025; one video from his Meta glasses allegedly showed him viewing the material on his phone.
According to the affidavit, Richie initially denied the conduct, then referred to the files as a “private collection” and admitted he had secretly recorded his wife. Court documents also say he appeared to collapse and needed help from deputies after the judge announced the bond conditions.
The Gazette reports the Jeffco district told reporters Richie worked in patrol operations from April 2015 until March 2024, then returned as an external consultant in September 2025. He was terminated in March 2026 after the district learned he was under investigation, and Jeffco has said the current allegations are not connected to a Jeffco student or campus.
Jeffco response and safety background
The district’s Safety & Security page describes a department that includes campus security, dispatch, emergency management, and armed patrol staff working around the clock in coordination with first responders. Jeffco says its safety office handles emergency communications, school-based protocols and resources for families, and it directs community members to statewide child-abuse reporting channels along with the district’s 24/7 dispatch line for urgent concerns. Jeffco Public Schools also posts guidance for families on emergency communication and reporting.
What’s next
Richie remains in custody as the case moves through Boulder County courts. Court filings outline bond conditions that would bar him from contacting anyone under 18, require him to surrender his passport and weapons, and sharply limit his internet use if he is released. Anyone with information for investigators is urged to contact Longmont police, and those seeking support or resources related to child abuse can reach Blue Sky Bridge at (303) 444-1388 or via Blue Sky Bridge.
