A busy Harford County intersection turned deadly Tuesday evening when a driver suspected of being involved in a drug transaction crashed and was trapped inside a burning vehicle at U.S. Route 40 and Maryland Route 543, according to authorities. The wreck involved four other vehicles and shut down the area for hours while emergency crews worked the scene.
Members of the Harford County Sheriff's Office Crime Suppression Unit said they saw what they believed was a drug transaction on Meadowood Drive in Edgewood and tried to stop the vehicle. The driver refused to pull over and later collided with four other cars at the US 40 and MD 543 junction, where the vehicle caught fire, trapping the driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to CBS Baltimore. Officials asked drivers to steer clear of the intersection while first responders and fire crews worked to secure and clear the area.

A Busy Edgewood Crossroads
The crash happened at the heavily traveled junction of U.S. 40 (Pulaski Highway) and MD 543, a connector that links US 40 with other major east-west routes through central Harford County. The corridor serves Edgewood and nearby commercial areas and was closed for several hours as investigators and cleanup crews worked the scene, causing significant traffic delays.
