Sunday started on the gray side in Downtown Los Angeles, with patchy fog and temperatures in the low 60s, but the gloom will not last. The cloud deck is expected to break up by late morning, setting up a mostly sunny afternoon with a high near 80°F. Light south-southwest winds around 0 to 10 mph will hang around, although a few favored spots could see slightly stronger gusts as the day warms up. Morning commuters along the coast should be ready for reduced visibility, while anyone planning afternoon time away from the immediate shoreline can expect comfortable conditions.
Foggy Mornings, Sunny Afternoons
Patchy fog and low clouds will be most common before about 11 a.m., with downtown trading the gray for blue skies by midday and afternoon highs in the upper 70s to around 80°F. Interior valleys will run a bit hotter, often about 5 to 10°F warmer than coastal spots, so inland errands could feel noticeably warmer than a quick run to the beach. The familiar night-to-morning marine layer pattern looks set to stick around through much of the week.
Surf And Beach Safety
A Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect through Monday evening, as long-period southerly swells drive 3 to 6 foot surf and push evening tides into the roughly 7.5 to 7.9 foot range. That combination increases the risk of sneaker waves and minor coastal flooding. According to the National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard, south-facing beaches in Ventura and Los Angeles counties will bear the brunt of the higher breakers. The Los Angeles County Lifeguards are urging beachgoers to stay off rocks and jetties and to avoid going in the water while the surf is elevated.
What To Expect This Week
Temperatures should tick up a few degrees Monday and Tuesday for many inland areas, before a weak trough drops in around midweek to cool things down a bit and deepen the marine layer. Night and morning low clouds are likely to stay common along the coast, but afternoons in downtown should remain mostly sunny and friendly to outdoor plans. If you have events lined up later in the week, give the forecast another look for any shifts in wind or temperature that could tweak your plans.
