Sean Quan and Jenny Phan, the husband-and-wife team behind Forestville’s Bazaar Sonoma, are bringing a new project to downtown Healdsburg: Mei Mei, a Chinese-style food hall and grocery. The concept is moving into the former Quail & Condor space at 149 Healdsburg Ave, where the couple plan to pair counter-service dishes with a compact grocery selection and a lineup of rotating pop-ups. They have been road-testing the idea across Sonoma County while recovering from a fire that damaged their Forestville restaurant in September 2025.
According to Sonoma Magazine, Quan and Phan have previewed Mei Mei’s menu through pop-ups at Session Climbing, Lo & Behold and Tisza Bistro. Those events have featured dishes like Sichuan mapo tofu, zhong dumplings, orange chicken, hotteok and cumin lamb stir-fry, giving locals an early taste of what could land on the eventual lineup.
From Fire To Pop-Ups
After an early-morning blaze damaged Bazaar Sonoma’s Forestville dining room in September 2025, Quan and Phan shifted operations to an annex kitchen and a steady rotation of pop-ups while they regrouped. The San Francisco Chronicle reported on the fire along with the couple’s quick pivot to pop-up dinners and annex service, a move that kept their food in circulation while their main space was out of commission.
What Mei Mei Will Offer
As detailed by Sonoma Magazine, Mei Mei is set up as a Chinese-style food hall and grocery inside the former Quail & Condor storefront, though no opening date has been announced. The format is aimed at blending all-day counter service with a curated grocery section and short-run vendor spots, giving the team flexibility to rotate in different dishes and concepts without locking into a single, fixed menu.
Why Healdsburg Makes Sense
Healdsburg’s downtown has been shifting toward more casual, pop-up-driven options as the town stretches beyond its tasting-room reputation. The SF Standard and other local outlets note a growing appetite for accessible, counter-service dining, the exact niche Mei Mei is aiming to fill.
Quan and Phan have not set an official opening date for Mei Mei and say they will keep testing dishes in the meantime. For updates, follow Bazaar Sonoma’s Instagram and Mei Mei’s Instagram.
