A 46-year-old Frederick mother was struck and killed Friday evening while walking with her children along a busy stretch of Bethel Road, according to authorities. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and deputies shut down the roadway near White Rock Avenue while investigators documented the crash site. The Frederick County Sheriff's Office said the investigation is ongoing.
Crash details
Deputies were called at approximately 6:22 p.m. Friday to the intersection of Bethel Road and White Rock Avenue for a reported pedestrian-involved collision, according to a press release from the Frederick County Sheriff's Office. The office says the victim, identified as 46-year-old Vung Sian of Frederick, was walking southbound near the right side of the lane when she was struck by a southbound 2011 Nissan Altima. Personnel from the Division of Fire and Rescue Services performed life‑saving measures, but she was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigators say the driver remained on scene and cooperated with deputies, and preliminary findings indicate neither drugs nor alcohol nor excessive speed appear to have been factors.
Statewide safety context
The state's highway safety effort has focused on funding and projects aimed at reducing deadly crashes, but officials say there is still work to do. The Zero Deaths Maryland office reported about a 33% drop in pedestrian and bicyclist fatalities from 2024 to 2025 and credited targeted grants, engineering changes, and enforcement for much of the improvement.
