Englewood is about to get its own happily-ever-after headquarters. Good Girl, a romance-only bookstore and cafe, is slated to open July 11 at 2807 S. Broadway, bringing shelves stocked exclusively with love stories to the South Broadway corridor.
Owner Meg Garcia-Jahrman, a 29-year-old Morrison native, built the concept out of a years-long reading binge that followed the loss of both of her parents, when she powered through roughly 400 romance novels. The small shop will pair a tightly curated, genre-specific selection with a cafe serving specialty beverages and an espresso program built around a local roaster.
According to The Denver Post, Garcia-Jahrman has been documenting the buildout on social media since April and has already hired an assistant manager along with about five baristas. She told the paper she inherited money after her parents' deaths and expects the project to cost between $150,000 and $200,000. Encouraged by her husband, she decided to shift from private reading habit to neighborhood business, with community programming planned alongside regular retail hours.
“I want Good Girl to be a gathering place and a ‘third space’ where people can hang out and feel at home,” Garcia-Jahrman told The Denver Post. She plans to stock only romance titles, from contemporary love stories to the increasingly popular romantasy subgenre, and to pair those shelves with a full beverage menu. Early build photos show a warm, intimate interior designed for book clubs, author events, and casual hangouts.
Romance Shops Keep Popping Up Along the Front Range
Good Girl is joining a small but growing cluster of genre-focused bookstores across the Front Range as romance fiction finds fresh in-person audiences. Axios has reported on Denver’s recent bump in romance-only bookstores, while nearby Boulder welcomed Sugar and Spice Books earlier this year, according to Boulder Reporting Lab. Owners of these niche shops say dedicated spaces help destigmatize the genre, build community, and anchor regular programming such as book clubs and author talks.
Cafe Program, Soft Opening Plans, and Neighborhood Role
The cafe will pour beans from Subjective Coffee, a South Westminster roaster, and will serve specialty espresso drinks alongside grab-and-go pastries and limited seating. Garcia-Jahrman has been sharing progress photos on social media as contractors finish shelving and counters, and she is targeting a July 11 opening with soft-launch hours and neighborhood-focused events.
Good Girl will join the South Broadway stretch of small businesses that lean on foot traffic and local programming to build regulars. Garcia-Jahrman says she hopes the shop settles in as a steady third space for readers and nearby residents. Customers looking for updates on hours or opening-week events can watch the shop’s social channels and local listings as the July date gets closer.
