Juanita's Mexican Restaurant, a family-run Tex-Mex staple just off the Houston Heights, quietly went dark on T. C. Jester Boulevard this week after more than 25 years in business. Regulars who showed up on Wednesday were greeted not by chips and salsa, but by a shuttered dining room and no advance warning, leaving a long-time neighborhood hangout gone almost overnight. For now, the closure appears to affect only the T. C. Jester location.
The owners posted a brief farewell on social media announcing the permanent shutdown and thanking both guests and staff, noting that “the memories we created together will always be cherished.” As reported by the Houston Chronicle, the T. C. Jester restaurant opened in 2000 and has served as a neighborhood fixture for nearly 26 years.
Other Juanita's locations still open
According to the Juanita's website, the brand still lists two operating locations: one on Louetta Road and another at the Houston Premium Outlets in Cypress, with menus and hours available online. The Louetta restaurant is listed at 11608 Louetta Road, and the Cypress outpost at 29110 US 290 Suite 500. For the moment, the company states that the closure applies only to the T. C. Jester storefront.
Neighbors share memories
Longtime customers took to social media to share their disappointment, posting about Sunday lunches, birthday celebrations and decades of weeknight dinners spent at the T. C. Jester restaurant. One commenter told the Houston Chronicle she was “truly heartbroken” by the news. The sudden shutdown spurred other regulars to dig up old photos and swap memories on neighborhood message boards.
What the space could mean for the Heights
The T. C. Jester address, commonly listed online as 2728 W. T. C. Jester Blvd., still shows up on mapping and review platforms with Juanita’s details even as the dining room sits dark. Listings such as MapQuest and TripAdvisor currently display the same contact information, but neither the owners nor the property’s landlord have publicly explained the closure. For now, Juanita’s other locations remain open, and the company has not announced any future plans for the former T. C. Jester spot.
