Angie's Pizza, the long-running Houston pop-up from chef Angelo Emiliani, is finally putting down roots in the Heights this July at 1002 W. 11th St., Suite A. The sibling-run spot is promising Neapolitan-style pies from a wood-fired forno, backed up by appetizers, pastas and a spritz-heavy bar program. Expect a patio-friendly dining room with midcentury flourishes and a style of hospitality that leans more family dinner than fussy night out.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Angie's is slated to debut in July in a renovated 1950s ceramic storefront designed by Michael Hsu Office of Architecture. The Chronicle notes that Emiliani and partner Alex Dunlevie signed the lease last summer and have been steadily rebuilding the former retail space into a full-service restaurant, a big step up from the original pop-up trailer and a chance to broaden the Italian menu.

“It's immensely humbling to go from pulling a little pizza trailer around to getting the opportunity to build this restaurant,” Emiliani told the Houston Chronicle. The menu is set to stretch beyond pies, with appetizers and a full pasta lineup that will include polenta “fries” with Zin Zin cheese sauce and wood-fired cannelloni with arrabbiata and guanciale. Drinks will stay in step with the food, built around an Italian-leaning wine list and a cocktail program heavy on spritzes.

Design and the block

The restaurant slots into an adaptive-reuse project that developer Ancorian has dubbed Ceramic Heights, which restores the midcentury ceramic storefront and places Angie's on a busy piece of 11th Street next to LORO and Trattoria Sofia, per Ancorian. Renderings on the developer's site show a look that leans hard into midcentury-modern details and a dog-friendly patio. The design team says the renovation keeps the building's original character intact while updating the interior for a compact neighborhood dining room.

From pop-ups to a storefront

Emiliani first launched Angie's in 2020 as a mobile pop-up, working out of a portable wood-fired oven and slowly building a local fan base, as detailed by CultureMap Houston. He later teamed up with his sister, Lucianna “Louie” Emiliani, to open Cafe Louie, a short-lived but much-discussed neighborhood project that put both siblings on more diners' radar. Louie will return to the fold at Angie's as pastry chef, NanProperties reports. That run of pop-ups, a bakery and careful rebranding has set expectations for a quietly ambitious, ingredient-focused pizzeria rather than a flashy, one-and-done concept.

Reservations and what to know

The official Angie's site currently lists the Heights address with a "coming soon" banner, a Resy link for reservations and posted hours of Thursday through Monday, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. For the latest opening details or to get in line for a table, check Angie's Pizza. The site also includes a local phone number for questions and is expected to carry updates on preview services or a soft opening.

Angie's arrival slots neatly into a streak of chef-driven debuts that has turned the Heights into one of Houston's most-watched dining neighborhoods. NanProperties notes that the area has become a preferred launchpad for first-time concepts and out-of-town operators testing the Houston market. Diners can likely expect a few preview nights before the full public rollout, so keeping an eye on Resy and the restaurant's site will be the best way to catch the official opening window.
