A late afternoon confrontation in Pittsburgh's Homewood North neighborhood ended in gunfire Monday, leaving a man hospitalized in critical condition, according to police. Officers rushed to the scene, quickly taping off the block and shutting down Frankstown Avenue between Collier and Sterrett streets while investigators got to work. Officials at the scene told reporters the shooting followed an altercation between two men, and as of Monday evening, no arrests had been announced while detectives continued their investigation.
According to WTAE, the call came in around 4:15 p.m. Officers arrived to find an adult man with gunshot wounds to the shoulder and chest. Medics rushed him to a hospital, where officials described his condition as “critical but stable.”
Scene and response
The department’s mobile crime unit was called in to process the scene while officers collected evidence and went door to door looking for witnesses, WTAE reported. Frankstown Avenue between Collier and Sterrett stayed closed into the evening while investigators documented the area.
Homewood's recent wave of violence
This latest shooting adds to a rough stretch along Frankstown Avenue and nearby streets this spring. The City of Pittsburgh public safety blotter lists multiple recent ShotSpotter activations in Homewood. Local outlets have also covered related incidents in recent weeks, including a fatal dirt‑bike crash at Frankstown and Brushton in late May and a May shooting where more than 40 shell casings were recovered in the area. The fatal dirt‑bike crash and the earlier shooting were reported by WPXI.
Investigation ongoing
Pittsburgh police are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting or who has video from the area to contact detectives as the investigation continues. This story will be updated as officials release additional details and if charges are filed.
