A quick chase through downtown Baltimore on Monday night ended with two 16-year-old boys in custody and a loaded handgun off the street, according to police. The arrests came after calls about armed individuals near the Inner Harbor. Both juveniles, who have prior robbery arrests, were taken to the Juvenile Justice Center and now face handgun-related charges.
Police response and charges
According to WBFF, officers were dispatched around 8:27 p.m. to the 300 block of Light Street for a report of armed individuals. After getting descriptions, officers quickly spotted two suspects and chased them on foot across a nearby bridge. Both teens were arrested, and police recovered a loaded handgun. WBFF reports the pair was charged with handgun violations and transported to the Juvenile Justice Center.
Light Street corridor context
The 300 block of Light Street and the surrounding Inner Harbor stretch have seen multiple late-night shootings and shots-fired calls this year, fueling anxiety for residents and downtown businesses already wary of crime headlines. In April, an unrelated September shooting near that same block was reported to have led to charges and a trial date, highlighting how closely public safety along this corridor is being watched. In response to high-profile incidents, downtown patrols and targeted enforcement have become more common.
Legal notes
Maryland law generally bans wearing, carrying, or transporting a handgun in public without authorization, with specific exceptions and penalties laid out in state code. Under Criminal Law §4-203, unlawful carry is classified as a misdemeanor, with a minimum 30-day sentence for first offenders and tougher mandatory minimums when a loaded gun is involved or for repeat convictions, according to the Maryland General Assembly. As WBFF reports, the two juveniles in this case were processed at the Juvenile Justice Center and now face handgun-related charges as the case moves through the system.
