A Galveston County murder case is emerging out of a roadside motel, where a 21-year-old Texas City man was found unresponsive and later died after what investigators say was a lethal dose of fentanyl.
Prosecutors allege that La Marque resident Brooklyn Pace sold the pills that killed Chase Boone, who was discovered unresponsive at a Super 8 motel on August 2, 2025. Boone, 21, later died, and after months of investigation, authorities arrested Pace on May 21, 2026. She now faces a murder charge tied to Boone’s fatal overdose.
According to the La Marque Police Department and the Galveston County District Attorney's Office, investigators concluded there was enough evidence to pursue criminal charges and confirmed the fatal drug contained fentanyl. Pace was taken into custody "without incident" on May 21, 2026, with help from the DEA and the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Fugitive Task Force-Galveston. Her bond has been set at $200,000, according to Click2Houston.
What Prosecutors Say Happened
Prosecutors allege Pace sold the pills that contained fentanyl and that investigators were able to link those specific pills to Boone's overdose. Boone's family has spoken publicly with local reporters about the arrest and the ongoing case, according to FOX 26 Houston.
Part of a Growing Legal Trend
Pace's case is unfolding against the backdrop of a nationwide shift in how fentanyl deaths are prosecuted. Across the country, more district attorneys are pursuing murder or manslaughter charges when a person accused of selling fentanyl is tied to a fatal overdose. A recent Fresno case that resulted in a lengthy prison sentence earlier this year is among several examples officials cite as evidence of that trend, according to the Los Angeles Times.
What Comes Next in Court
Pace's case now moves through the Galveston County court system. Her bond remains set at $200,000, and as of now, no additional hearings have been publicly reported. The Galveston County District Attorney's Office has said it believes the investigation supports the criminal charges, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the La Marque Police Department, according to Click2Houston.
