The Win~Dow, an L.A.-born smashburger mini-chain, is lining up its first Orange County outpost in Old Towne Orange, according to recent filings. Plans point to a walk-up counter with outdoor seating, a garden, and an on-site bar, all packed into a compact corner of historic Orange.
As reported in coverage of the first Orange County outpost, the operator has zeroed in on 237 W. Chapman Ave as the proposed address and has listed both a bar and an outdoor garden among the key features. The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control's public filings also show an application under "WIN ORANGE LLC" for a Type 47 on-sale general eating-place license in Orange County, a step toward serving full bar drinks on site. There is no official opening date listed yet.
What The Win~Dow Brings
The Win~Dow started as a humble walk-up window in Venice in 2019 and has since expanded into several Southern California neighborhoods with a stripped-down menu of smashburgers, fried chicken sandwiches and hand-spun shakes, according to The Infatuation. The concept is part of the American Gonzo Food Corp. family of restaurants, which lists The Win~Dow among its portfolio on the company site. Menu and delivery listings show single cheeseburgers typically landing in the roughly $4 to $5 range, a price point that has been a big part of the brand's draw.
Old Towne's Fit
The Chapman address at 237 W. Chapman Ave appears in commercial property listings as a small historic parcel with a roughly 1,760-square-foot building and adjacent land, situated within walking distance of the Orange Plaza, per commercial listings. Local directories show the site previously housed automotive and muffler services, as indicated in past business listings for the property. The compact footprint and walk-up setup would echo how the brand has planted other neighborhood locations in pedestrian-friendly pockets, a pattern noted by local coverage of recent openings.
What Happens Next
There is still no confirmed opening date, and the project must clear local permits and final approvals before the public can line up for burgers and drinks. Per the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, a Type 47 On-Sale General Eating Place license authorizes the sale of beer, wine and distilled spirits for consumption on the premises, but requires the venue to operate as a bona fide eating place. For now, the ABC application and property filings remain the clearest public signs of intent, and an official word from the city or the operator will be the next milestone to watch.
