A new Cheers-inspired neighborhood pub has quietly slipped into Lake Highlands, promising elevated bar food, live music and big-screen sports without the frat-house vibe. Charlie's Tavern & Kitchen has taken over space in the Northview Plaza shopping center and is rolling out brunch, dinner and late-night service designed for locals. The owners say the goal is a steady neighborhood hangout, not a one-night-only destination.
According to CultureMap Dallas, Charlie's now occupies the suite that most recently housed Tailgaters and is the second location from restaurateur Justin Newton, who opened the original near the University of Texas at Arlington earlier this year. The Lake Highlands menu leans on elevated pub plates such as burgers, wings, pastas, pizzas and tacos, with most entrees in the $12–$20 range. Weekend brunch runs Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and CultureMap also reports the bar will keep extended hours every day from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m., with the kitchen staying open later into the night.
A Familiar Corner Gets A Refresh
Job postings tied to the opening indicate the new crew formally took over the Tailgaters footprint rather than starting from scratch. A Glassdoor listing for Charlie's Tavern & Kitchen notes the group is "taking over for Tailgaters" in the Lake Highlands area. Local business listings place Tailgaters at 10677 E. Northwest Hwy., Suite 400, according to MapQuest. The Charlie's concept already operates an Arlington location, per Charlie's Tavern & Kitchen, giving the Lake Highlands space a ready-made template to follow.
Grand Opening, Music And World Cup Watch Parties
Owner Justin Newton told CultureMap Dallas he wanted "something that was not a typical sports environment, with elevated bar food, in a pub environment." To kick things off, the team has planned a grand-opening celebration on Saturday, June 27 with live music into the afternoon, World Cup viewing later in the evening, all-day happy-hour pricing and complimentary samples, along with free drinks for the first 100 guests. Management also says regular programming will feature local bands, weekly karaoke nights, a pool table and an active poker league.
Menu, Beer List And The Vibe
Inside, the setup aims to handle both big-game crowds and small friend groups. The room reportedly spans about 5,000 square feet and includes roughly two dozen TV screens, a 20-tap beer program and a substantial bourbon and spirits lineup. The menu covers classic bar favorites and more dressed-up plates, so diners can expect wings, chicken tenders, burgers, sandwiches, pizzas and several pastas, along with shareable appetizers. The patio is dog-friendly and seats about 20, and staff members say the bar will be a regular host for neighborhood watch parties and sports nights.
For locals curious about the new spot, the June 27 opening party is the first big push to build a regular following, and the restaurant says it will also run a school-supply drive for nearby public schools. Between late kitchen hours, a daily happy hour and a rotating events calendar, Charlie's Tavern & Kitchen is pitching itself as a Lake Highlands living room for the summer and beyond.
