As of 5:35 a.m. PDT on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, the Las Vegas Valley is waking up under clear skies and comfortably cool temperatures in the low 70s. That comfort will not last long. The desert air will warm quickly, with a high near 95F expected this afternoon and only modest overnight relief as temperatures drift back into the mid-70s. Sunshine and dry air will rule the week, with the heat steadily ramping up into the holiday weekend.
Afternoon Winds Pick Up
Afternoons through the work week are expected to turn breezy, with thermally driven southeasterly winds kicking in as the day heats up. On Wednesday and Thursday, gusts are forecast to reach into the 20s mph, enough to shove around some loose lawn furniture and toss dust or light debris across more exposed parts of the valley. Smoke along the Mormon Mesa corridor could also knock down visibility at times.
According to the National Weather Service, those gusty afternoons will stay dry, which unfortunately is a perfect setup for fire danger. Any sparks from equipment, grills, or fireworks could find plenty of receptive fuel.
Heat Through The Holiday
The real headline arrives late this week and into the Fourth of July weekend, when temperatures climb into classic Vegas triple digits. Forecast highs are near 100F on Thursday, about 101F on Friday, roughly 104F on Saturday (Independence Day), 106F on Sunday, and around 109F by Monday, July 6. Overnight lows will not offer much relief either, generally holding in the mid-to-upper 70s.
Clark County has daytime cooling stations available for residents who need an air-conditioned break from the heat. Locations and hours are listed through Clark County, and anyone without reliable cooling at home is encouraged to use them.
How To Stay Safe
To ride out the heat in one piece, avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, stay hydrated, and shift outdoor plans to earlier in the morning or later in the evening when possible. If you are grilling or using fireworks, keep a bucket of water or a hose within reach and stay mindful of wind and dry brush.
Check in on older neighbors, people with health issues, and anyone who may not have air conditioning. If you spot smoke or signs of fire, call 911 immediately and move to a cool, safe location while help is on the way.
