South Baltimore’s Patapsco corridor lit up late Friday night as flames ripped through multiple parked vehicles, turning a quiet stretch of roadway into a chaotic scene of sirens and smoke. Fire crews moved in fast after the 11:30 p.m. call and were able to get the blaze under control. Authorities reported no injuries, and the cause of the fires is still a mystery.
Officials say that shortly after 11:30 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to the 1000 block of E. Patapsco Ave. When the first engine company arrived, crews found multiple vehicles already burning and immediately requested backup. Additional units joined the effort, and firefighters worked to bring the incident under control. No injuries were reported, according to FOX45 News.
Patapsco Corridor’s Recent Close Calls
This is not the first time the East Patapsco stretch has seen a major emergency response. In 2017, a four-alarm warehouse fire tore through a textile warehouse on the 1000 block, sending up heavy smoke and drawing a large contingent of firefighters, per Firehouse. Earlier this month, an explosion at the nearby Patapsco Wastewater Treatment Plant injured contractors and triggered a separate investigation, according to CBS Baltimore.
Investigation Still in the Early Stages
The Baltimore City Fire Department says investigators are working to determine what sparked the late-night vehicle fires and has not released additional details. The cause remains under active investigation, per FOX45 News.
Authorities have not provided a timeline for when their findings will be made public. Further updates are expected as investigators share more information.
