On May 6, Flem Peacher VI says a quiet night at home in Romulus turned into a nightmare when someone opened fire on his house while his wife and five children were inside. He told reporters that about 20 shots rang out and 14 bullets ripped through the home as the family scrambled for cover, leaving them shaken and feeling as if they had been ambushed.
Surveillance video shown to investigators captured a young man in a white hoodie walking past the house, then jogging back toward it, pulling out a gun and opening fire, according to ClickOnDetroit. The outlet reports the shooting began just after 10 p.m., with 20 rounds fired and 14 striking Peacher's home on the 6000 block of 2nd Street while his wife and five children were inside. Authorities have not publicly identified a suspect.
"It was the most devastating, longest 30 seconds of my life," Peacher said at a Crime Stoppers event, urging whoever opened fire to turn themselves in and "turn your heart to the Lord," according to ClickOnDetroit. He told those gathered that he has no known enemies and said the pattern of fire made him think the attack was coordinated, leaving his family working to rebuild any sense of safety inside their own home.
