San Antonio police discovered a man dead along the railroad tracks on the city’s East Side late Monday night, and investigators think he may have been there for up to a week. An El Salvadoran identification card, reportedly belonging to a 29-year-old man, was found nearby. Officials said the body showed no obvious signs of trauma, and the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the man’s identity along with the cause and manner of death.
According to News4SanAntonio, officers were called around 8:20 p.m. Monday to the corner of Frost Bank Center Drive and the I-35 frontage road, where they found the body near the tracks. Police secured the area while investigators processed the scene and requested that the medical examiner’s office handle identification and further testing.
Rail corridor context
The discovery adds to a string of grim incidents along Texas rail lines. In May, six people were found inside a boxcar in Laredo, and another body was later discovered near tracks in southwest Bexar County, an incident KSAT reported. That episode prompted coordination between local and federal investigators and renewed scrutiny of freight corridors used in suspected human smuggling activity.
What officials say next
Authorities said they do not yet have a confirmed name for the man found near Frost Bank Center and will release further details after the medical examiner completes its examination. Per News4SanAntonio, investigators plan to update the public once identification and cause of death testing are finished.
