An 8-year-old child is fighting for life after being hit by a car on June 28 near the intersection of North Las Vegas Boulevard and North Lamb Boulevard, according to police. Officers arrived to find the child critically injured and had them rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Investigators say the child was crossing Las Vegas Boulevard outside a marked crosswalk when the front of a 2011 Hyundai Elantra hit them, throwing the child onto the roadway. The driver, a 31-year-old woman, stayed at the scene while Metro's Collision Investigation Section began processing the crash. Police say she showed no signs of impairment.
What police released
According to 8 News Now, officers were dispatched to the area of North Las Vegas Boulevard and North Lamb Boulevard on June 28 after reports that a child had been struck. Metro's initial release stated the child was crossing Las Vegas Boulevard outside a marked or implied crosswalk west of the Lamb intersection when the Hyundai hit them.
8 News Now reports the front of the vehicle struck the child and propelled them into the travel lanes, where medical crews treated the victim before taking them to a local hospital in critical condition. The outlet notes that police did not immediately share further information about what led up to the crash.
Driver remained at scene; investigation underway
Metro's Traffic Bureau said the driver stayed at the scene and "did not show signs of impairment," and the department's Collision Investigation Section is handling the case, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. As with other serious collisions, investigators are expected to review witness statements, any available video and physical evidence from the scene to sort out factors such as speed and right of way.
Safety concerns on Lamb Boulevard
The Lamb Boulevard corridor has seen multiple recent crashes involving pedestrians and vehicles, putting a spotlight on crosswalk locations and street design along busy north-side arterials. Local outlets have covered other serious collisions in the area this spring, including fatal incidents near Lamb, according to FOX5 Las Vegas.
The City of Las Vegas' 2026 Vision Zero action plan singles out high-crash corridors and outlines engineering, enforcement and education strategies that range from retimed signals to upgraded crosswalks, all aimed at cutting down on severe injuries. The full plan is available in the city's updated City of Las Vegas Vision Zero report.
How to help
Investigators are asking anyone who saw the crash or has photos, video or dash-cam footage from the area to contact the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Collision Investigation Section at (702) 828-3595 or call Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Metro has not released the child's name or the hospital where they were taken, and 8 News Now reports that police are withholding additional details while the investigation continues.
