A burst of gunfire on a West Baltimore block Thursday left one man dead and two others wounded, after a ShotSpotter alert drew officers to the 1800 block of Payson Street, according to police. When officers arrived, they found three people suffering from gunshot wounds, and medics rushed all three to nearby hospitals.
Police said the victims were a 20-year-old woman and two 22-year-old men. One of the 22-year-old men was pronounced dead, the other was listed in critical condition, and the woman was reported in stable condition. Homicide detectives have now opened an investigation into the triple shooting, per WBAL‑TV 11.
ShotSpotter And Police Response
Officers were first sent to the scene after gunfire triggered a ShotSpotter alert, the acoustic detection system the city uses to quickly pinpoint likely shooting locations. Baltimore’s Board of Estimates recently voted to extend the system’s contract, a move that has drawn both praise from supporters who say it speeds up police response and criticism from others who argue it wastes taxpayer money, according to WMAR2 News.
What Police Are Asking
Homicide detectives are urging anyone who saw what happened or who has video from the area to contact them at 410-396-2100. Officers are still processing the scene and reviewing evidence as the investigation remains active, according to WBAL‑TV 11.
