An overnight crash on Glenwood Avenue turned deadly early Wednesday, leaving a motorcyclist dead and a major Raleigh thoroughfare shut down for hours.
The collision happened in the 2500 block of Glenwood Avenue near Oberlin Road, where Raleigh police worked the scene into the morning and blocked traffic in both directions while they collected evidence and redirected drivers.
Raleigh police said officers were called to the area after reports of a crash, and the rider was pronounced dead at the scene, the Raleigh Police Department told CBS17. The department has not released the rider’s name or said what might have led up to the wreck, and investigators are asking anyone who saw the crash to contact Raleigh crash detectives.
Glenwood Corridor’s Safety Record
The deadly wreck arrives as the Glenwood Avenue corridor is already under scrutiny following a separate pedestrian fatality along the busy US-70 route, a case that has renewed questions about safety on the road, according to The News & Observer. Regional planning documents have called for upgrades along US-70, and the stretch has been identified for pedestrian and safety improvements.
Investigation Ongoing
Raleigh police say the investigation into the motorcycle crash is still active and, so far, no charges have been announced, as reported by CBS17. Detectives are working to piece together what happened and continue to ask anyone with information to reach out to the department.
