For Mariners fans who have always wanted to be part of the ballpark itself, the team is opening the door, or rather the wall. The club is rolling out a new Legacy Plaza at T-Mobile Park where fans can install engraved bats and medallions right inside the stadium. Public sales kick off Thursday at 9 a.m., after an early purchase window for season-ticket holders. The plaza will sit just inside the center-field gate and will feature a statue honoring the 2001 Mariners.
According to the official Legacy Plaza page on Mariners, the team is offering 116 in-park commemorative bats, one for each win in the 2001 season, priced at $1,000 each. More than 2,000 engraved baseball medallions are available at $250 a pop. Fans who want a keepsake at home can spring for a $500 replica bat. Each installed bat can carry up to 30 characters of custom text on the handle, and medallions can be personalized too. Items purchased by July 13 will be installed in time for the Legacy Plaza unveiling on September 3, with later purchases added during the offseason.
Mariners chairman John Stanton pitched the plaza as both a celebration of the franchise and a way to support local kids, saying it "reflects the deep connection between the Mariners and our community," according to KIRO 7. The station reports that season-ticket members received first crack at purchases this week, with the general public window opening Thursday at 9 a.m. KIRO 7 adds that the plaza will officially debut before the Mariners 6:40 p.m. game against the Athletics on September 3.
How to buy and customize your piece of history
Season-ticket holders should keep an eye on their inboxes for a special early-access link. Everyone else can jump in when the public sale opens Thursday morning, as laid out on the Legacy Plaza page on Mariners. In-park bats are capped at 116 and allow up to 30 characters of engraving on the handle. Medallions offer two lines of text with 15 characters per line. The $500 replica bats are for fans who want something to display at home without putting their name into the stadium wall.
Where the money will go
The club says proceeds from Legacy Plaza sales will support Mariners Legacy Field projects that build and upgrade youth baseball and softball fields across Washington, according to KIRO 7. That effort is part of the Mariners broader community push to expand access to the game for young players. Fans who want their bat or medallion in place when the plaza opens should order by the July 13 cutoff to be included in the September 3 unveiling.
To recap for stat-minded fans: bats are $1,000, medallions are $250, and replica bats are $500. Sales to the public start Thursday at 9 a.m., and anything bought by July 13 is set to be in the lineup for the September 3 Legacy Plaza debut.
