A Sunday evening drive in Pomona ended in tragedy when a sedan careened off the road and into a tree at the intersection of Santa Clara Drive and Trabuco Place, killing a passenger and sending the driver to the hospital.
The single-vehicle crash happened around 7 p.m. near Ranch Hills Elementary School. The impact crushed the front end of the sedan, and paramedics pronounced the passenger dead at the scene. The driver was taken by ambulance to a hospital, with authorities saying only that the person’s condition remained unknown.
Pomona Police Lt. I. Miller told City News Service that investigators were working the scene Sunday night and that the cause of the collision was not immediately clear, according to MyNewsLA.com. Video from the scene showed a dark sedan with its front end demolished as officers shut down the intersection so collision investigators could document the wreckage.
Where It Happened
Ranch Hills Elementary School is located at 2 Trabuco Place, about a block from the crash site, according to the school’s website. The wreck unfolded just off that stretch, turning a routine neighborhood intersection into a fatal crash scene.
For residents looking for official documentation, the Pomona Police Department maintains an online portal with instructions for obtaining collision reports. The city notes that reports involving a death or an arrest are routed through the department’s Records Bureau and may not be available through the online system.
Pomona’s Recent Crash Trend
The deadly wreck comes as Pomona has been grappling with a run of serious crashes. In April, a high-speed police pursuit ended with multiple fatalities, highlighting how quickly local streets can turn deadly, according to the Los Angeles Times. City officials have said each collision is examined on its own, with investigators routinely probing for speed, intoxication, or potential mechanical failures.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities said the investigation into Sunday’s crash remains active and did not immediately release further details, according to MyNewsLA.com. Pomona police are expected to provide updates through the department’s records page, which also outlines how to request official collision reports once they become available.
