An 18-year-old woman is fighting for her life after police say an argument over a boy turned violent at a northwest Houston apartment complex early Thursday, ending with the teen stabbed in the head.

Investigators say the confrontation started after two women came back from a pool party and began arguing. The dispute escalated inside a downstairs unit, where one of the women was stabbed in the temple. She managed to run into the complex parking lot before collapsing, according to police. Neighbors rushed in to give first aid until paramedics arrived.

What police say

The stabbing happened around 1 a.m. in the 1700 block of Seaspray Court, according to Click2Houston. Houston Fire Department medics took the victim to a nearby hospital, where she remains in critical condition on life support, police told reporters.

Investigators said the suspect, a 20-year-old woman, is in custody and cooperating with detectives. As of Thursday morning, no charges had been announced.

Where it happened

The 1700 block of Seaspray Court sits in a large apartment complex near 18th Street that has seen police activity before. In 2016 the Houston Police Department reported that a burglary suspect opened fire at an officer responding to a call in the same area. Authorities say that earlier case appears unrelated to Thursday's stabbing.

Investigation status

Detectives with HPD's Homicide Division are leading the investigation and are interviewing witnesses and neighbors to clarify the sequence of events, according to Click2Houston. Police say the 20-year-old suspect, who lives alone in the apartment where the second altercation took place, remains in custody while the inquiry continues.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the stabbing to contact the Houston Police Department as the investigation moves forward.
