An early Tuesday morning burst of gunfire rattled the intersection of 13th and Pearl, sending one person to the hospital and flooding the downtown stretch with flashing police lights.
Denver police officers quickly cordoned off the intersection and stayed on scene for hours while detectives documented evidence and spoke with witnesses. As of early Tuesday, the department had not released details about the victim’s condition or whether anyone had been taken into custody.
What the video shows
According to CBS News Colorado, video from the scene showed police tape wrapped around the area and a heavy officer presence, with one person rushed to the hospital. The station did not report additional information about the victim’s injuries or provide any description of a possible suspect.
Where this fits in recent downtown violence
The area around Pearl Street has seen other high-profile violence in recent weeks. According to Hoodline, an early Saturday stabbing near 14th and Pearl rattled the same corridor in early May, and Denver7 has documented a rise in homicides this year, even as officials say the broader trends are more nuanced. City and police leaders have been publicly discussing prevention strategies while investigators continue to work multiple active scenes across Denver.
