Gunfire shattered the early hours in South Linden on Sunday when a person was shot and left in critical condition on the 900 block of East 22nd Avenue, Columbus police said.
Officers were dispatched just after 2:45 a.m. and arrived to find a person who had been shot. Medics took the victim to a hospital in critical condition, according to police. Investigators said they had no suspect information as detectives began working the block.
Police response and investigation
Columbus police confirmed the early morning call and the timing of the response, according to NBC4. Detectives were reported to be canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses while investigators processed the scene.
As officers and crime scene tape moved in, the focus turned to standard but crucial work: knocking on doors, pulling any available video, and trying to piece together what unfolded on East 22nd Avenue before dawn.
Recent violence in Linden
The shooting adds to a string of violent incidents in Linden this year. In March, an alley shooting left a man fighting for his life in South Linden, prompting the city to assign extra investigative resources to the neighborhood. City and police officials have said that the concentrated attention is meant to improve clearance rates for non-fatal shootings in South Linden.
For a community already on edge over repeat incidents, another person in critical condition is one more reminder that the city’s extra resources are being tested close to home.
How to help
Anyone with information about the overnight shooting is asked to contact Columbus police or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS, according to NBC4.
Police urged neighbors to share tips with investigators rather than posting unverified video or speculation online, a reminder that solving cases still depends heavily on what people are willing to tell them directly.
