Pedestrian Safety in Los Angeles
Deadly incidents like this one are part of a wider and stubbornly persistent trend in California. According to SafeTREC's 2025 Traffic Safety Facts, the state recorded 1,106 pedestrian deaths in 2023. Los Angeles County accounted for the largest share of those fatalities, with 273 pedestrians killed.
The same report found that roughly 75% of pedestrian fatalities occur at night, between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., underscoring how early-morning and nighttime crashes tend to be especially dangerous for people on foot.
What Investigators Will Be Looking At
CHP had not released more information early Saturday, and it was not immediately clear whether more than one vehicle was involved or whether the driver remained at the scene following the collision.
This story will be updated if officials release additional details. For real-time traffic conditions and SigAlert notices, check the CHP Traffic incident page.
