A 22-year-old man is in custody after a 20-year-old woman died following a shooting on Cleveland's west side this week, in a case that started as a reported suicide attempt and quickly turned into a homicide investigation.
Officers were called early Wednesday to the 15700 block of Puritas Avenue. The woman was rushed to a hospital and died the following day.
What Police Say

When they arrived, they found a 20-year-old woman with what initially appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Cleveland EMS took her to a local hospital.
Investigators later said that the information given at the scene did not line up with the woman's injuries. Officers interviewed a 22-year-old man who was on the scene and arrested him.

The shooting unfolded in the Puritas neighborhood, an area that has already been on edge after a string of high-profile incidents. Hoodline previously reported on another deadly Puritas station shooting that stirred fresh concerns about safety on the west side and on transit property.
Victim Identified
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified the woman as Brielle Nash and said she died from her injuries on June 11, according to WOIO/Cleveland 19. Police have reclassified the case as a homicide investigation, and detectives are continuing to work the case.
