A drive through Berkshire Township turned tragic when a van ran a red light at State Route 3 and Galena Road, slamming into a sedan and killing a Columbus woman, Teresa Moore, according to authorities.
Three people were inside the sedan, including Moore. All three were taken to area hospitals, and two of them suffered severe injuries, officials said. The van's driver was treated at the scene, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.
According to WSYX/ABC6, troopers reported that the van "blew through" a red light before striking the sedan. The outlet noted that Moore later died at a hospital and that all three people in the sedan were transported for treatment, with two listed as having severe injuries.
Intersection Has A History Of Safety Work
The intersection of State Route 3 and South Galena Road has been on local engineers' radar for years. The Delaware County Engineer reports that an ODOT safety study flagged the spot as a high-crash location, prompting a project in 2018 that added left-turn lanes and a traffic signal.
County project documents list SR 3 intersection improvements as part of a broader slate of priority safety upgrades, supported in part by federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funding.
Crash Adds To A String Of Deadly Wrecks
This latest collision lands in the middle of a rough stretch for Delaware County roads. Earlier this month, Hoodline covered a June 2 head-on collision on US 42 head-on crash and an April multi-vehicle wreck on I-71 that shut down the interstate for an extended period, according to I-71 pileup, both requiring lengthy investigations and major road closures.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the SR 3 crash and has not released additional information about contributing factors or possible charges. Troopers have not provided further updates, and the investigation remains active.
