Monday in LaGrange Township got a little more country than usual when a Lorain County deputy rounded up a stray cow that had wandered onto Webster Road. The animal was reported between Diagonal Road and West Road and was safely secured by deputies, county officials said. The sheriff’s office is asking anyone who recognizes the cow or knows its owner to contact them so the animal can be reclaimed.
According to Cleveland 19, the sheriff’s office provided a photo of the animal and said a deputy located and corralled the cow on the county road. The outlet reported that deputies urged the owner to call the sheriff’s office to arrange pickup.
The Lorain County Sheriff’s Office lists the main contact information on its website, and deputies asked that anyone who believes the cow is theirs call 440-329-3709. The agency’s public site also lists the sheriff’s office address and general guidance for reaching deputies.
How deputies handled the animal
Reporters published a photo credited to the sheriff’s office showing the cow near the roadway, and officials said the deputy was able to secure the animal without injury. Deputies held the cow until they could make arrangements to reunite it with its owner.
Not uncommon on Ohio roads
Loose livestock calls crop up occasionally across the state. For example, Colerain Township officers recently helped corral escaped bulls in a residential area, as reported by WLWT. Those incidents highlight the risk loose cattle pose to drivers and neighbors and why deputies sometimes respond to seemingly unusual calls.
If you recognize the cow or are its owner, the sheriff’s office asks you to call 440-329-3709 or visit the agency’s website to arrange for the reclaiming of the animal. Deputies said they want to return the cow to its owner as quickly as possible.
