Rush-hour gunfire rattled Uptown Charlotte on Wednesday evening, leaving three people shot and a neighborhood on edge. Police say an adult and two juveniles were hospitalized after the shooting, which unfolded just before 5:30 p.m. in the 500 block of North Davidson Street near East 8th Street. One juvenile suffered life-threatening injuries, and detectives are still working the case as the investigation continues.
According to WCCB Charlotte, officers first found a juvenile at the scene with life-threatening wounds. Shortly afterward, an adult and another juvenile showed up at a nearby hospital with gunshot injuries. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department told the station it believes all three were hurt in the same incident but did not say whether any suspects were in custody. Anyone with information can leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600, the station added.
Uptown's Recent Violence
Wednesday's shooting is the latest in a run of violent incidents around Uptown this month. On June 14, officers responded to multiple gunshots near Romare Bearden Park and later arrested two teens in that case, according to WSOC-TV. The Charlotte Observer reported that police credited curfew enforcement and extra patrols with helping officers make quick arrests in recent Uptown incidents.
Police And Community Response
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say detectives are following leads and reviewing any available video or witness accounts as the probe moves forward. Local leaders and residents have called for more visible patrols and youth-focused interventions after a spate of teen-involved shootings, WBTV reported. City officials say they will keep up targeted enforcement in busy Uptown areas while investigators work this latest case.
Anyone with tips or footage is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or call 911 in an emergency. This story will be updated as police release more information.
