A seemingly routine Thursday morning traffic stop in Saddle Brook turned into something out of a crime drama when officers discovered that both people in a black 2020 Lincoln SUV were wanted on extradition warrants from other states, authorities said.
Saddle Brook police pulled the Lincoln over at about 11:23 a.m. on June 4 and identified the occupants as 29-year-old Sena Miclescu of Newburgh, N.Y., and 27-year-old Edera Miclescu of Baltimore, Md., according to Daily Voice. Officers later concluded that the identification documents presented during the stop were fake.
Police told the outlet that Sena was wanted on full extradition warrants from Las Vegas, Oakland and Alameda County, Calif., while Edera was wanted on a full extradition warrant from Las Vegas. Both were charged in New Jersey with third-degree offenses tied to allegedly presenting false documents and hindering apprehension, and each was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
What Interstate Extradition Means
Interstate extradition is the formal process that lets one state ask another to surrender a person who is charged with crimes. The U.S. Constitution and federal statute set up the framework for how that handoff works. Under 18 U.S.C. § 3182, a demanding state can seek a governor's warrant, and once the paperwork is approved and completed, custody transfers are typically arranged, as explained by the Legal Information Institute.
If Nevada or California decide to move forward with formal extradition in this case, authorities in New Jersey could continue to hold the Miclescus locally until agents from those jurisdictions arrive to take custody.
Charges And Next Steps
According to Daily Voice, Sena Miclescu was charged with third-degree knowingly exhibiting a false government document and third-degree hindering apprehension.
Edera Miclescu faces third-degree counts of knowingly exhibiting a false government document and hindering apprehension, along with a third-degree counterfeit-marks charge. Both defendants remain in the Bergen County Jail and are expected to be processed at Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack for their initial court appearances.
Police And Community Context
The Saddle Brook Police Department lists contact details, leadership information and alert options on its public website and urges residents to report suspicious activity through its outreach channels. Initial coverage of the incident included a photo credited to the Bergen County Sheriff's Office, and local officials have not released additional public information beyond the arrests and the decision to remand the defendants to jail.
Both suspects are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in court. Any extradition requests or new charges will have to move through the usual processing and court proceedings in the weeks ahead.
